I noticed a sprouting clove in the garlic pot so planted it up. I put a couple more in to keep it company. The green shoot is about twice as high as it was when I planted it last Saturday.

A 10'x2' east facing balcony isn't the best situation for most plants. As last winter killed off most of my dwindling assortment I have decided to try some veg. I sowed courgette, beetroot, chives and cress seeds and a few sprouting garlic gloves on 24th April and was surprised to see the cress had germinated by the next day. I am impressed with the growth after just one week, even my lonely beetroot has done well. So far so good.
I did the same thing today with some peas - I had bought ready-shelled in Tescos and had some "leftover" and noticed some had sprouted, so I pushed them into some soil in a pot - I hope something comes from them! Hope your garlic works well - will they produce a big bulb of cloves?
ReplyDeleteMy trusty 1970s 'Self Sufficient Gardening' books says to just use a bulb from the greengrocers if they are cheaper and plant the cloves individually so I presume I will get cloves from these. If size depends on amount of sun I don't think I'll be entering them into any competitions!
